Overview and History of HealthPort
A long-standing commitment to innovation
In June 2007, HealthPort was formed through the combination of two leading health information companies—Smart Document Solutions (SDS) and Companion Technologies, uniting over 30 years of proven technology and experience in the health information management, physician practice, and community health industries. Throughout their respective histories, both companies earned reputations for award-winning innovation and trusted expertise.
HealthPort merged with its biggest competitor in Release-of-Information (ROI) services, ChartOne, in September of 2008. With this merger, the company increased its market share and now holds the distinction of being the largest provider of ROI services in the nation. By combining the best elements of knowledge and technology from both companies, HealthPort is changing the face of ROI as we know it. Today, HealthPort's customers have access to a wide range of solutions and services designed to improve business processes and help connect the paper reality of today with electronic health records of tomorrow.
Currently, HealthPort serves over 10,000 healthcare facilities nationwide, including hospitals physician practices and community health centers. One in every three hospital health information management departments will use at least one of HealthPort's products or services. Additionally, HealthPort processes over 45,000 medical record requests per day and delivers over 50% of those requests electronically.
There is a growing trend among healthcare organizations to consolidate technology vendor partnerships. The goal is to use firms that provide a broader array of integrated services and solutions. HealthPort is a one-source provider meeting this need with its expanded line of products and services.
