CMS-Recent Final Rules and Regulations

CMS has been quite busy lately with the recent announcement of a proposed delay in the ICD-10 implementation date (click here to read more about this on Jan McDavid’s HIPAA News and Updates blog) and now the release of a final regulation:

  • To revise the existing Conditions of Participation (CoPs) for hospitals and critical access hospitals

And a final rule:

  • To reduce regulatory burden on health care providers which addresses more than two dozen regulatory requirements for a broader range of providers, including hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, end stage renal disease facilities and durable medical equipment suppliers.

CMS says, the rules aim to promote efficiency and transparency, and to reduce health care providers’ overall regulatory burden and will save $5 billion over five years. The final rules were published in the CMS Federal Register on May 16th.
