Planning Tips for Successful Electronic Health Record (EHR) Implementations:
- Create a team with clinical involvement to achieve buy in at all levels.
- Assess your readiness for an electronic health record. Evaluate workflow and business processes. Streamline operations prior to implementation.
- Set realistic expectations and goals. Visit a live site similar to yours to observe how the system works.
- Acquire knowledge of system features, benefits, and full potential to do what you want to do.
- Allow for sufficient training and learning curve time up front. Create an onsite training team to complete vendor training, then provide training in house.
- Realize that decreased productivity early on is offset by increased income in the long run. Hire extra personnel to help maintain production on the front end.
- Plan for ongoing training with upgrades to ensure full functionality for the long term. Stay up to date on all that your system can do for you.
